You may feel that you learn better when some type of physical activity is involved. You may call yourself a "hands-on" learner who prefers to touch, move, build, or draw what you learn. You may feel that you understand and remember things through physical movement. People who have a preference for learning in a tactile way can choose to learn by touching and doing. This study contributed to the EFL field in Libya by providing clear information on students' learning style preferences and their correlation with academic achievement.You have a preference for learning in a tactile way The findings are discussed in this study with implication for university instructors to identify their students' perceptual learning style and match them with their teaching style to influence students' achievement, and deliver their lectures by using different approaches and techniques to ensure that the learning process is effective and efficient for a great number of their students. The findings also revealed that there was a significant relationship between students' learning style preferences and their academic achievement the strongest correlation (r=0.30, P<.01) was found between the auditory learning style and academic achievement. The findings showed that tactile style was the most dominant learning style among the students followed by auditory style while kinesthetic style was the least favoured learning style. A self-reporting learning style questionnaire developed by Kinsella (1994) was used to collect data and final semester examination scores were used to determine the average academic achievement for each participant. A total of 75 fourth year English major students were participated in this study. The aim of this study, therefore, was to investigate the perceptual learning style preferences of Libyan EFL University students majoring in English at Omar Almukhtar University and to check whether there is a significant relationship between students' perceptual learning style preferences and their academic achievement. Based on the result, the teachers need to address this diversity of learning styles and develop an appropriate teaching method in the classroom activities.Įxploring perceptual learning style preferences and their relationships with academic achievement is important to success in teaching and learning language. The VK and AK students are equal in number (10%). The rest of the students are A learners (15%), 20% of the students are K learners, and 5% of them are VA learners. Most of the students are visual learners (35%). The responses showed the learning styles of the students. Walisongo Putri, Ngabar 20 students were asked to complete the questionnaire. The researcher administered the VAK questionnaire to twelfth-grade students of MA. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the students’ learning styles and propose the best method for the teaching and learning process that suits their styles. Understanding students’ learning styles is an important consideration when a designing method for English classroom instruction. Since individuals differ in their ways of learning, teachers require applying different ways of teaching which take into account these individual differences. Their learning style includes visual (V), auditory (A), and kinesthetic (K). In another word, they have different learning styles. Students have different preferences in the way they take in and process information.
